Agriculture

B.

Economics

C.

Medicine

D.

Peace

Correct Answer: D

Detailed Solution

Norman Ernest Borlaug was awarded the 1970 Nobel Peace Prize. He received the honour for his contribution to increasing global food production through the Green Revolution and reducing the threat of hunger.

Borlaug was an American agronomist and plant breeder. He played an important role in developing high-yielding, disease-resistant and semi-dwarf varieties of wheat in Mexico, which greatly increased wheat productivity.

During the 1960s, his wheat varieties and associated agricultural practices were introduced in several countries, including India and Pakistan. This resulted in a substantial increase in food-grain production and accelerated the Green Revolution.

For this reason, Norman Borlaug is often called the “Father of the Green Revolution.”

Borlaug's work was in Agriculture, he did not receive a Nobel Prize in Agriculture; he received the Nobel Prize in the Peace category. In fact, there is no separate Nobel Prize category for Agriculture.
