The Kisan Bahi Yojana was implemented in Uttar Pradesh in 1992. The purpose of Kisan Bahi was to provide a farmer/tenure-holder with important information relating to his landholdings in the form of a consolidated passbook.

Kisan Bahi provides for recording information relating to land rights. It enables a tenure-holder to obtain information about his holdings in a single document and can also be used in processes such as obtaining institutional credit on the basis of land.

Under the present legal framework, Section 41 of the Uttar Pradesh Revenue Code, 2006 provides for Kisan Bahi. It describes Kisan Bahi as a consolidated passbook for all holdings held by a tenure-holder in a district. Amendments in land records can be incorporated in it, and banks can also endorse details of loans advanced on the basis of the holdings recorded in it.

Current status: The Uttar Pradesh Revenue Code Rules, 2016 also provide for the supply of Kisan Bahi and refer to the continuing application of the Uttar Pradesh Kisan Bahi (Passbook) Rules, 1998.
