Rajaji — Uttarakhand

B.

Pin Valley — Jammu and Kashmir

C.

Bandipur — Karnataka

D.

Simlipal — Odisha

Correct Answer: B

Detailed Solution

Pin Valley National Park is actually located in Himachal Pradesh, not in Jammu and Kashmir. It is an important Trans-Himalayan protected area situated in the Spiti sub-division of Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh.

Pin Valley lies in a high-altitude, cold-desert ecosystem characterised by very low rainfall and severe climatic conditions. It forms part of the distinctive high-altitude landscape of the Spiti Valley.

Its ecosystem differs considerably from ordinary tropical or temperate forest national parks. Because of severe cold, sparse vegetation and high-altitude terrain, the region supports animals adapted to cold-desert conditions.

The Snow Leopard is one of the best-known species associated with this landscape. Siberian Ibex, Himalayan Snowcock, Red Fox and other high-altitude fauna are also associated with the region.

Rajaji — Uttarakhand is correct. Rajaji National Park extends across the Dehradun, Haridwar and Pauri Garhwal regions of Uttarakhand. It is particularly important for the Shivalik landscape and Asian Elephant habitat.

Bandipur — Karnataka is correct. Bandipur National Park is located in Karnataka and forms an important part of the Nilgiri landscape. It is also associated with the core conservation landscape of the Bandipur Tiger Reserve.

Simlipal — Odisha is correct. Similipal National Park is situated in Odisha. It is an important protected area of the Mayurbhanj landscape and is also associated with the Similipal Tiger Reserve and Biosphere Reserve.
