Detailed Solution
Dudhwa National Park is situated in the Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh near the India-Nepal border. It is one of the most important protected areas of the Terai ecosystem in Uttar Pradesh.
The area was initially protected as a Sanctuary in 1958. It was subsequently notified as Dudhwa National Park in 1977.
The National Park covers approximately 490 sq km and contains characteristic Terai habitats including Sal forests, tall grasslands, wetlands and marshy areas.
Dudhwa is particularly known for Tiger, Swamp Deer or Barasingha, Leopard, the reintroduced One-horned Indian Rhinoceros and numerous bird species. The landscape has played an especially important role in the conservation of the Barasingha.
The Dudhwa landscape later became important for Tiger conservation as well and was developed as the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve in 1988.
Lakhimpur Kheri → Dudhwa National Park
Pilibhit → Pilibhit Tiger Reserve
