Detailed Solution
First comes the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972. It was enacted on 9 September 1972. The law provided India with a comprehensive legal framework for the protection of wild animals, birds and plants.
Next came Project Tiger. The Government of India launched it in April 1973. Its objective was to maintain a viable population of tigers and conserve their important habitats. It began initially with 9 Tiger Reserves.
The third event is Project Elephant. It was launched by the Government of India in 1991-92 as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme. Its major objectives included conservation of elephants, their habitats and corridors, and addressing human-elephant conflict.
Finally comes the Biological Diversity Act, 2002. Its objectives include conservation of biological diversity, sustainable use of its components and fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the use of biological resources.
Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 → Project Tiger, 1973 → Project Elephant, 1991-92 → Biological Diversity Act, 2002
