The headquarters of the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) is located in Nagpur, Maharashtra.
The institute was established in 1958 as the Central Public Health Engineering Research Institute (CPHERI). Initially, its major research areas included water supply, sewage disposal, communicable diseases and industrial pollution.
With the expansion of environmental concerns and research activities, it was renamed the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) in 1974.
NEERI is a constituent laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and works in environmental science, environmental engineering and related technological solutions.
