D.

Correct Answer: D

Detailed Solution

The official title of the Brundtland Report is Our Common Future. It was presented in 1987 by the World Commission on Environment and Development (WCED). The Commission was chaired by Gro Harlem Brundtland, and hence it is commonly known as the Brundtland Report.

The report popularised the concept of Sustainable Development at the global level. It explained Sustainable Development as development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Therefore, Assertion (A) is correct.

However, The Limits to Growth is not another name for the Brundtland Report. It was a separate study published in 1972, commissioned by the Club of Rome and prepared by researchers at MIT. It examined the relationship among population, industrialisation, food production, pollution and finite natural resources.
