The Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) is a flagship innovation and entrepreneurship initiative of the Government of India set up under NITI Aayog. It seeks to build a culture of innovation, problem-solving and entrepreneurship ranging from schools to start-ups, universities and industries.

One of its major programmes is the Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL) initiative, which promotes creativity, design thinking and experimentation with new technologies among school students.

AIM also operates Atal Incubation Centres (AICs) to provide incubation support to start-ups and entrepreneurs, while programmes such as the Atal New India Challenge encourage practical and sector-specific innovations.

Atal Tinkering Labs provide students opportunities to work with technologies such as 3D printing, robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), electronics and prototyping.

Current status: The Union Cabinet approved AIM 2.0 on 25 November 2024. It has been approved for continuation until 31 March 2028, with an allocation of ₹2,750 crore. AIM 2.0 seeks to expand, strengthen and deepen India's innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
