Detailed Solution

The 43rd Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee was held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 30 June to 10 July 2019. During this session, Jaipur City, Rajasthan was inscribed on the World Heritage List.

The inscription was adopted under Decision 43 COM 8B.16. UNESCO inscribed Jaipur under criteria (ii), (iv) and (vi).

Jaipur was founded in 1727 by Sawai Jai Singh II. It is noted for its systematic grid-iron town plan, broad streets, public squares or chaupars, markets, and the combination of Hindu, Mughal and Western planning ideas. UNESCO recognises it as an important example of indigenous city planning in South Asia.

According to the Government of India, after its inscription on 6 July 2019, Jaipur became India's 38th World Heritage Site at that time.
