Correct Answer: B

Detailed Solution

A. Kevlar — Synthetic Fibre (2). Kevlar is an exceptionally strong, lightweight, and heat-resistant synthetic fibre made from Para-Aramid Polymer. It was developed in 1965 by the American chemist Stephanie Kwolek. Due to its high tensile strength and low weight, it is used in bullet-resistant jackets, protective helmets, gloves, and industrial equipment.

B. Taxol — Anticancer Drug (3). Taxol, also known as Paclitaxel, is an anticancer drug. It was initially obtained from the bark of the Pacific yew tree (Taxus brevifolia). It prevents the breakdown of microtubules during cell division, thereby inhibiting the division of cancer cells. It is primarily used in the treatment of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and certain types of lung cancer.

C. Zinc Phosphide — Rodenticide (4). Zinc Phosphide (Zn₃P₂) is a rodenticide used to control rats and other harmful rodents. It is a highly toxic chemical compound. When it comes into contact with acids present in the stomach of rodents, it releases a poisonous gas called Phosphine (PH₃), which disrupts cellular processes. It is also dangerous to humans and other non-target organisms.

D. Nitrocellulose — Explosive (1). Nitrocellulose, also known as Gun Cotton, is a highly flammable substance. It is used in the manufacture of smokeless powder and propellants. It can burn rapidly, producing large quantities of gas and energy. Therefore, it is associated with low explosives and propellant materials.
