Detailed Solution

The project was planned to be established in the Sambhar Lake region near Jaipur.

An agreement for the project was signed on 29 January 2014 among six public-sector entities—

BHEL, Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), Sambhar Salts Limited (SSL), POWERGRID, SJVN and Rajasthan Electronics & Instruments Limited (REIL).

The proposed total capacity of the project was 4,000 MW. It was planned to be developed in two stages—

Phase-I → 1,000 MW
Subsequent phases → remaining 3,000 MW

The project was envisaged to be developed over approximately seven years.

Land was to be provided by Sambhar Salts Limited, while BHEL was associated with equipment supply, POWERGRID with power evacuation, SECI with sale of electricity and REIL with operation and maintenance.

According to the proposal at the time, after completion it could have become one of the world's largest single-location solar electricity generation projects.
