Correct Answer: A

Detailed Solution

TRYSEM (Training of Rural Youth for Self Employment) was a programme for training rural youth for self-employment. It was launched in 1979 and functioned as a supporting programme of the Integrated Rural Development Programme (IRDP).

Its main objective was to provide technical and entrepreneurial skills to youth belonging to poor rural families so that they could develop self-employment opportunities and increase their income.

Instead of providing only general education, it emphasised vocational and skill-based training suited to local conditions and employment opportunities. Therefore, it was directly associated with rural development and rural self-employment.

Current Status (2026): TRYSEM is no longer operated as a separate programme. Along with other rural self-employment programmes, it was merged into the Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY) in April 1999. SGSY was subsequently restructured into the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM). The broader rural livelihoods framework currently operates as the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM).
