Correct Answer: B
Detailed Solution
Statement 1 is incorrect. Singrauli Super Thermal Power Station is not located in Chhattisgarh. It is situated at Shaktinagar in Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh. According to NTPC, both the Singrauli and Rihand plants are in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, whereas the Vindhyachal plant is located in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh.
One possible reason for the confusion is that several major NTPC thermal plants—such as Korba and Sipat—are located in Chhattisgarh. Singrauli STPS, however, is in Uttar Pradesh.
Statement 2 is correct. Singrauli was NTPC's first and oldest power project. The Government of India approved Singrauli in 1976 as NTPC's first pithead super thermal power project. Its first 200 MW unit started generation on 13 February 1982.
NTPC itself describes Singrauli Unit-1 as its “first and oldest unit.” The original thermal capacity of the Singrauli station is 2,000 MW, comprising 5 × 200 MW units in Stage-I and 2 × 500 MW units in Stage-II.
