A.

22 January, 1950

B.

24 January, 1950

C.

22 July, 1947

D.

22 July, 1948

Correct Answer: C

Detailed Solution

The Constituent Assembly of India adopted the National Flag in its present form on 22 July 1947, only a few weeks before Independence.

The resolution concerning the National Flag was moved in the Constituent Assembly by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. It provided for three equal horizontal bands of deep saffron, white and dark green, with a navy blue Chakra in the centre of the white band. The Chakra was based on the wheel appearing on the Sarnath Lion Capital of Ashoka and has 24 spokes.

After its adoption, this flag served as the National Flag of the Dominion of India from 15 August 1947 to 26 January 1950, and thereafter as the National Flag of the Republic of India.

A useful distinction is—22 July 1947 = National Flag adopted; 24 January 1950 = last meeting of the Constituent Assembly; 26 January 1950 = Constitution fully came into force.
