Which Article of the Indian Constitution describe the Central Vigilance Commission?

A.

Article 268

B.

Article 280

C.

Article 276

D.

None of the above

Correct Answer: D

Detailed Solution

The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) is not a constitutional body, and therefore no specific Article of the Constitution provides for it. Its statutory basis is the Central Vigilance Commission Act, 2003. Section 3 of this Act provides for the constitution of the Central Vigilance Commission.

Therefore, none of Articles 268, 280 and 276 is related to the CVC.

Article 268 deals with certain duties levied by the Union but collected and appropriated by the States.

Article 280 deals with the constitution of the Finance Commission.

Article 276 deals with taxes on professions, trades, callings and employments. Hence, none of these Articles concerns the Central Vigilance Commission.

The most important conceptual point is that CVC = Statutory Body, not a Constitutional Body.
