Detailed Solution

Paradeep — Odisha (A-3): Paradip Port is located in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha on the Bay of Bengal coast. It is the only Major Port in Odisha. It was declared India's eighth Major Port on 18 April 1966. Its location near the Mahanadi delta enables it to serve a large hinterland in eastern and central India.

Tuticorin — Tamil Nadu (B-1): Tuticorin, now known as Thoothukudi, is located in Tamil Nadu. Its major port is now called V.O. Chidambaranar Port. It was declared India's 10th Major Port on 11 July 1974. It is an artificial deep-sea harbour situated near the Gulf of Mannar.

Kakinada — Andhra Pradesh (C-4): Kakinada Port is situated on the eastern coast of Andhra Pradesh on the Bay of Bengal. Kakinada has port infrastructure associated with both an Anchorage Port and a Deep Water Port. Nearby Hope Island acts as a natural breakwater, providing relative protection to Kakinada Bay from strong sea waves and storm surges.

Alappuzha — Kerala (D-2): Alappuzha Port is located in Kerala and historically served as an important trading centre for coir, coconut, pepper, coffee, tea and other hinterland products. Its older name, Alleppey, is also widely known. Commercial port operations are presently inactive; regular export-import activity remained significant until 1989.

An important examination fact is that Paradip and V.O. Chidambaranar (Tuticorin) are Major Ports, while Kakinada and Alappuzha are associated with the State-administered non-major port system.
