Which among the following is an important mineral of Pegu Yoma region of Myanmar?

A.

Silver

B.

Tin

C.

Copper

D.

Mineral oil

Correct Answer: D

Detailed Solution

Pegu Yoma, now also known as Bago Yoma, is a range of low hills situated in central Myanmar. It is associated with the broader Central Myanmar Tertiary Basin, one of the important petroleum-bearing regions of Myanmar.

The region consists largely of Tertiary-age sandstone and shale formations. Such sedimentary rock sequences can accumulate petroleum where suitable folds and structural traps are developed.

Geological investigations in the north-western part of the Bago Region have been undertaken particularly because of its oil potential. Petroleum exploration in Myanmar also has a long history, and the Central Myanmar Basin has long been known for onshore oil production.
