Detailed Solution

The BHARATPOL Portal was developed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). It was launched on 7 January 2025 in New Delhi. Its objective is to connect various Indian law-enforcement agencies through a digital platform for international police cooperation through INTERPOL and for seeking assistance from foreign law-enforcement agencies in criminal matters. Official information from the Ministry of Home Affairs explicitly identifies it as a portal developed by the CBI.

The CBI functions as INTERPOL's National Central Bureau (NCB-New Delhi) for India. Earlier, requests for international assistance from States, Union Territories and Central law-enforcement agencies reached the CBI through different communication channels. BHARATPOL was designed to make this process more standardised, secure and faster.

BHARATPOL has five major modules—Connect, Broadcast, INTERPOL References, INTERPOL Notices and Resources. The Connect module links the CBI with law-enforcement agencies across India; the INTERPOL Notices module streamlines requests for INTERPOL notices including Red Notices; and the INTERPOL References module facilitates investigation-related assistance from foreign countries.

By February 2025, 51 law-enforcement agencies and more than 500 unit offices were connected through the portal. It is intended to speed up international cooperation in matters involving transnational organised crime, narcotics and arms trafficking, cybercrime, economic fraud and other cross-border criminal investigations.
