A.

Muzaffar Ahmed

B.

Nalini Gupta

C.

Shaukat Usmani

D.

M.A. Ansari

Correct Answer: D

Detailed Solution

The Kanpur Conspiracy Case of 1924, also known as the Kanpur Bolshevik Conspiracy Case, was one of the major trials initiated by the British Government to suppress the early Communist and Socialist movement in India.

Its background lay in arrests beginning in 1923, and in 1924 several prominent Communist activists were prosecuted. The Government alleged that they were planning revolutionary action to overthrow British rule and separate India from Britain.

Muzaffar Ahmed, Nalini Gupta and Shaukat Usmani were associated with the case. S.A. Dange was also among its important accused.

Shaukat Usmani had earlier been associated with the Peshawar Conspiracy Case and was later also prosecuted in the Meerut Conspiracy Case. Thus, he figured in several major colonial trials directed against Communist activity.

In contrast, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Ansari was not an accused in the Kanpur Conspiracy Case. He was primarily associated with the Indian National Congress, the Khilafat Movement and mainstream nationalist politics.

Dr. Ansari later also served as President of the Indian National Congress at its Madras Session in 1927. His political career was therefore distinct from the Communist conspiracy trial at Kanpur.
