Correct Answer: D

Detailed Solution

Gopal Krishna Gokhale founded the Servants of India Society at Pune on 12 June 1905. Its objective was to train dedicated workers who would devote their lives to the service of the country and society.

Along with Gokhale, Natesh Appaji Dravid, Gopal Krishna Deodhar and Anant Vinayak Patwardhan were associated with the organisation as its early members.

The Society emphasised education, social welfare, upliftment of disadvantaged sections and political education. Its members were expected to give priority to public service rather than personal gain.

Gokhale supported constitutional and peaceful political methods. The Society similarly sought to advance the national interests of Indians through constitutional means and train workers for public life.

Another important fact is that in the same year, 1905, Gopal Krishna Gokhale also presided over the Banaras Session of the Indian National Congress.

Therefore, the Servants of India Society was founded in 1905.
