The Indian National Congress Session held at Amritsar in December 1919 was the last Congress session attended by Bal Gangadhar Tilak.

Tilak returned to India from England towards the end of 1919 and arrived in time to participate in the Amritsar Congress. The session was presided over by Motilal Nehru.

The political background of the Amritsar Session was highly significant. The year had witnessed the Rowlatt Act, the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 13 April 1919, and Martial Law in Punjab, all of which had intensified opposition to British rule.

At the same time, the Montagu-Chelmsford Reforms embodied in the Government of India Act, 1919 had been introduced. Differences existed within the Congress over the policy to be adopted towards these reforms. Tilak supported using the available constitutional opportunities while continuing the political struggle.

After returning from Amritsar, Tilak also worked towards organising a Congress Democratic Party and preparing for participation in the forthcoming elections.

However, Tilak died on 1 August 1920. He therefore could not attend the Nagpur Session of December 1920, making Amritsar, 1919 his last Congress session.
