A.

Urdu

B.

Hindi

C.

English

D.

Marathi

Correct Answer: A

Detailed Solution

The first issue of the Ghadar paper was published in Urdu on 1 November 1913. About a month later, its Gurmukhi edition was also published.

In 1913, Indian immigrants formed the Hindi Association at Portland in the United States, which later became known as the Hindustan Ghadar Party. Sohan Singh Bhakna was its President and Lala Har Dayal its General Secretary.

The organisation established its headquarters at Yugantar Ashram in San Francisco and arranged the publication of the weekly Ghadar from there. The paper was distributed free among Indian immigrants.

The word ‘Ghadar’ meant rebellion/revolt. Its masthead carried the words “Angrezi Raj Ka Dushman”, clearly expressing its objective against British rule.

Its circulation later extended beyond North America to Hong Kong, China, the Philippines, Singapore and India, and it played an important role in spreading revolutionary nationalism among overseas Indians.

Therefore, the first issue of Ghadar was published in Urdu.
