State — Ruler

A.

Devgiri — Shankar Dev

B.

Warangal — Ramchandra Dev

C.

Hoysala — Veer Ballal

D.

Madura — Veer Pandya

Correct Answer: B

Detailed Solution

During Alauddin Khalji's campaigns in South India, the major powers of the Deccan and South India were the Yadavas of Devagiri, Kakatiyas of Warangal, Hoysalas of Dwarasamudra and Pandyas of Madura.

Ramchandra Dev was not the ruler of Warangal but the ruler of the Yadava kingdom of Devagiri. In Alauddin Khalji's initial Devagiri campaign, Ramchandra Dev was defeated and was subsequently required to pay regular tribute.

After the death of Ramchandra Dev, his son Shankar Dev became the ruler of Devagiri. He stopped paying tribute to the Delhi Sultanate, following which Malik Kafur again campaigned against Devagiri in 1312 CE and defeated Shankar Dev.

Warangal at that time was ruled by the Kakatiya dynasty. During Malik Kafur's campaign of 1309–10 CE, its ruler was Prataparudra II, not Ramchandra Dev.

Similarly, the ruler of the Hoysala kingdom was Veer Ballal III. Malik Kafur campaigned towards Dwarasamudra in 1310–11 CE, and Veer Ballal accepted the suzerainty of the Delhi Sultanate.

In the Pandya kingdom, a succession struggle was taking place between Veer Pandya and Sundar Pandya. During Malik Kafur's Madura campaign, Veer Pandya was a major party in this conflict. Therefore, the pair Madura — Veer Pandya is also correct.
