Detailed Solution

1. Mandi — Uttar Pradesh: Mandi is an archaeological site associated with the Harappan culture and is situated in the present-day Muzaffarnagar region of Uttar Pradesh. In 2000, villagers accidentally discovered a large quantity of ornaments made of gold, silver and semi-precious stones at the site.

Archaeological study has associated these ornaments with a Harappan cultural context. The discovery is important for understanding Harappan cultural presence in the Upper Ganga-Yamuna Doab and the high level of jewellery-making technology.

2. Rakhigarhi — Not in Uttar Pradesh: Rakhigarhi is situated in the present-day Hisar district of Haryana. Extensive evidence belonging to the Early and Mature Harappan phases has been discovered there. It is one of the largest known Harappan urban settlements in India.

3. Hulas — Uttar Pradesh: Hulas is an important archaeological site situated in the present-day Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. Excavations by the Archaeological Survey of India identified five cultural periods at the site, of which the earliest Period I represented the Harappan culture.

Hulas is particularly important for understanding the Late Harappan phase and the eastward expansion of Harappan culture into the Upper Ganga-Yamuna Doab. Archaeological evidence relating to village life, agriculture and animal husbandry has also been recovered from the site.
