Correct Answer: B

Detailed Solution

Yapaniya was a Jain sect of ancient and early medieval India. It developed alongside the Digambara and Svetambara traditions, but some of its beliefs differed from those of the two major Jain traditions.

According to IGNOU academic material, the Yapaniya sect developed around the first century CE. According to tradition, it was possibly founded by a Svetambara monk named Kalasa at Kalayanagara.

An important feature of the Yapaniya tradition was its belief that women could also attain moksha. This position differed from some other Jain doctrinal positions of that period. The Yapaniyas also held that Kevalins could take food.

The influence of the Yapaniya community is particularly visible in the Deccan and Karnataka region. Inscriptions and Jain literary traditions provide evidence of the presence of this sect. In later times, it disappeared as an independent sect and its followers were largely absorbed into other Jain traditions.
