Correct Answer: D
Detailed Solution
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency, or BEE, is a statutory body under the Union Ministry of Power.
It was established in the year 2002 under the provisions of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001.
BEE launched the Standards and Labelling Programme to display the energy efficiency of appliances.
Under this programme, appliances are generally assigned a rating ranging from one to five stars.
A higher star rating generally indicates higher energy efficiency and lower electricity consumption for the same use.
The label helps consumers compare the energy consumption of different models.
During the period relevant to the question, ceiling fans were included in the BEE Star Labelling Programme.
Energy-efficient ceiling fans use comparatively less electricity while providing a similar airflow.
Electric geysers or storage water heaters were also covered under the BEE Star Label.
Their rating is based on prescribed efficiency standards, including heat-retention capacity and energy loss.
Tubular fluorescent lamps were also included in the BEE Star Labelling Programme.
Their energy efficiency was assessed using parameters such as light output relative to electricity consumption.
