Previous Year Question

Which of the following became the 29th State of India in 2014?

A.
Telangana
B.
Jharkhand
C.
Uttarakhand
D.
Sikkim

Correct Answer: A

Detailed Solution

Telangana was formed on 2 June 2014 as the 29th State of India. The official Telangana State Portal expressly states that Telangana came into existence on 2 June 2014 as the 29th State in the Union of India.

The legal basis for its creation was the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014. According to India Code, the Act was enacted to reorganise the existing State of Andhra Pradesh and came into force on 2 June 2014.

As a result of this reorganisation, Telangana was separated from the undivided State of Andhra Pradesh. Thus, according to the number of States existing at that time, Telangana became India's 29th State.

Remember:
Telangana — 2 June 2014 — Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014 — 29th State of India.
