Balwantrai Mehta
B.
Dr. Verghese Kurien
C.
M. S. Swaminathan
D.
Norman Edwarg

Correct Answer: B

Detailed Solution

Dr. Verghese Kurien is known as the “Father of the White Revolution in India.” The official information of the Government of India's Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying identifies him by this title. He was the Founder Chairman of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB)
and served as its Chairman from 1965 to 1998.

The major programme behind India's White Revolution was Operation Flood. It was launched by the NDDB in 1970, and Dr. Kurien was one of its principal architects. The programme expanded the Anand Pattern dairy cooperative model across different parts of the country, linked village milk producers with organised cooperatives and urban markets, and developed an extensive network for milk procurement, processing and marketing.

Dr. Kurien is also known as the “Milkman of India.” His birthday, 26 November, is observed in India as National Milk Day. Remember the distinction: M. S. Swaminathan — Green Revolution in India; Verghese Kurien — White Revolution in India; Norman Borlaug — Green Revolution at the global level.
