A.
Buxar
B.
Plassey
C.
Wandiwash
D.
None of these

Correct Answer: B

Detailed Solution

The Nawab of Bengal, Siraj-ud-Daulah, was defeated by the forces of the East India Company at the Battle of Plassey in 1757 CE. The British forces were led by Robert Clive.

A decisive factor in Siraj-ud-Daulah's defeat was the betrayal of Mir Jafar, one of his military commanders. Robert Clive had entered into a secret arrangement with Mir Jafar, and a major part of Mir Jafar's forces remained inactive during the battle, helping ensure the Company's victory.

Fact: The Battle of Plassey was fought at Palashi in 1757 CE. The victory gave the East India Company decisive influence in Bengal politics and became an important turning point in the expansion of the Company's political power in India.
