The Charaka Samhita is an ancient Indian medical treatise associated with Ayurveda. It discusses the human body, causes and symptoms of diseases, diagnosis, treatment, diet and the maintenance of health. 

Important Fact: It is historically imprecise to describe the extant Charaka Samhita simply as a book written entirely by Charaka. The textual tradition traces the earlier work to Agnivesha, whose text was redacted by Charaka and later completed or supplemented by Dridhabala.
